CHIP for Teens – Job Description

The McGill Cardiovascular Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is seeking qualified Physical Education or Kinesiology students or high school teachers or graduates to work with the CHIP for Teens Program that targets overweight teens at risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The goals of the summer program are to help teens improve health and lifestyle habits, achieve a healthy weight, incorporate physical activity into daily living, improve body image and self esteem, increase fitness and energy levels, and make healthier food choices.  This will be done in collaboration with other health professionals including dieticians, psychologists and exercise physiologists

Areas of Responsibility

  • Participate in the planning and development  of all lifestyle, physical activity and fitness programs during the summer and during the follow up programs throughout the year
  • Oversee, coordinate and teach all activities and educational components with the support of other health professionals
  • Collaborate with the the families (meetings / education) to increase the chances of success
  • Design personal training programs for each teen and oversee their training throughout the summer
  • Assist in the collection of measurements / data throughout the summer
  • Prepare a final report based on feedback and surveys from the teens, parents and staff
  • If interested, work with McGill researchers from the Department of Physical Education to prepare pre and post research data and abstracts for publication

Qualifications should include:
Experience working with youth and teens in a sports and fitness environment
Strong organizational and program planning skills
CPR and First Aid certification
Bilingual
June 21, 2010 until August 13, 2010.
